Artwork Description

Mixed Media on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

My fascination for mythology continues on the canvas with Medusa who is a Gorgon.
When I painted the background of this artwork, I knew it would turn into something with snakes. The paint had that way about it.
After a month of sitting on the shelf, Medusa came out onto the page. I used acrylics, watercolour crayons, poscas and gel pens for her and to add marks to the page. The circle border was made by stamping a huge gumnut.

There was a blank spot at the bottom which needed filling in and I couldn't work out what to do with it. I searched for Medusa quotes and came across some Nikita Gill poems. She perfectly puts into words what I try to do with my Goddess Art. She rewrites the stories from a woman's point of view, when reading it, it makes perfect sense. I highly recommend looking her up.

From Gorgon ( A letter to the Patriarchy), the quote I used was " Perhaps the truth about Gorgons is they are just women, women who do not bend to the world or fit into the narrow mould you want them to".

I have always felt like I was outside the box so this speaks to me.

I'd love to know what comes up for you.

A swirling background of yellow and pink hosts 2 goddesses in the foreground and mountains and a wave in the middle ground. One of the Goddesses is looking front on with plaited hair. The other is coming from the side blowing a wind of words which have been torn out of a book and words circled to make a poem.On a green collaged background is a tree with a branch stretching behind a woman with blue flowing hair. She wears a white, pink and gold crown. She is Goddess Athena. Next to her is a golden owl delivering an olive branch. On an oval canvas, there are 2 girls, Geminis, with yellow flowing hair. They have blue and pink eyes. They bodies are drawn in black. There are patterns all of their the background in red and blue. Stencils have been done in sea green. Stamps have been done in yellow. On an oval canvas is a woman with yellow collaged flowers in her black hair. She wears a yellow and black polka dotted top. She has green eyes and looks calm. The background is a different story. There are what looks like tracks of coloured paint running up and down the canvas in dark green, yellow, pale pink and red.
