Artwork Description

This piece illustrates the rapid decline of native animals and landscapes, therefore the decline of human survival. The Darwin’s Frog appears, and at this moment on the edge of extinction due to deforestation of it’s natural habitat, the changing climate, fungal overgrowth in native botany. Which ties back to the main consequences of the elimination of forests for toxic agricultural farming of animals and crops that are not native to the lands of Chile and Argentina. There is an interconnectedness that humanity is getting closer to grasp, the Knowing that if nature disappears then we no longer have the means to exist either. The rebirth is possible, we have done so for thousands of years.

Artist Bio

Jael Buscema is an Argentinian folk artist, reclaiming stories and knowledge from pre and post-colonial Latin American history influenced by racial, socio and environmental burdens of colonisation, and the rebirth of ancestral knowledge that was once suppressed from Indigenous traditions. She applies realism and spirituality with portraits, nature, and symbolism that represents the ancestral connection that is formation of a story.
