Artwork Description

‘Flow’ depicts the snowy mountains in Kosciuszko National Park in a state of transition. Spring is a time of new life and rebirth; it is when the landscape wakes from its hibernation and comes alive. This work seeks to convey the constant transition of life through the experimental depiction of Kosiciusko’s landscape.
The initial prints are created in the darkroom using expressive, and often intuitive, techniques. Exposures are made through gut feeling after reading the negatives, and the developer is painted on the paper using a brush until the desired amount of image appears. Once the prints are finished, they are hand coloured with oil paint and assembled if necessary. This approach to making photographic work produces a depiction of the natural landscape that only exists in the works. They challenge our memory of the landscape and explore the way we have the power to alter our experience of it.
