Gums explores my memory and experience of the Australian Landscape. The work starts as a photograph and is then transformed into a depiction of my memory of the landscape through a transformative process in the darkroom. The negative is enlarged and hand coloured with oil paint. This process imitates how memories are formed, things are experienced, then dissected through thought, before being put back together in their new form as a memory.
