Artist Bio

James Stojko is an Australian landscape painter whose artistic journey began at the age of ten during a family trip to Croatia, where both his parents were born. While visiting relatives, he encountered his uncle’s artwork — an experience that left a lasting impression and sparked a deep desire to become an artist. Inspired by watching his uncle work in oils, James created his very first oil painting there in Croatia, a formative moment that set the direction for his lifelong dedication to art.

As he grew, James explored a wide range of mediums and styles. Working primarily with acrylic paint in his early years, he experimented with portraiture, abstract art, and various forms of experimental expression. These explorations helped him develop a strong visual foundation and a willingness to push creative boundaries. He later expanded his practice to include pastels and eventually found his primary voice in oil painting.

James often paints en plein air, using outdoor studies as the basis for larger works created in his studio. Since opening his private studio in 2020, he has been painting full time, driven by a relentless dedication to learning, research, and disciplined practice.

His commitment has not gone unnoticed. As artist Simon Klose writes: “James Stojko is a demon of learning, research, commitment, measuring values and plain hard work. I have never seen a more dedicated and committed young man determined to bring forward paintings which are artworks of high order. More strength to his arm.” — Simon Klose

Rooted in a passion first sparked in Croatia and strengthened through years of exploration and commitment, Stojko continues to build a body of work that reflects both his evolving artistic vision and his deep connection to the landscape.
