Ant at first glance, can appear intimidating; almost two metres and casting a strong, yet solitary shadow. He holds an attentive gaze, transfixed by you.
The painting is grounded in a conversation we had some years ago, as colleagues. I was distracted by his physical angularity, perched on an undersized chair, stilted limbs scaffolding his head. There is a captivating contrast between his air of confidence and a feeling of fragility. Constructed during a time of physical and emotional isolation, I have tried to recapture the essence of that earlier conversation.
