Artwork Description

Bright and striking. This piece explores themes of entropy in an isolated system. The natural order of breaking down to a simple form.

Artist Bio

Jamie McElhinney is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice explores repetition, intuition, and the space between order and chaos. Working across oil, acrylic, and watercolour, he shifts between meticulous, repetitive mark-making and loose, instinctive gestures, allowing each painting to emerge through process rather than predetermined outcomes.
His work is influenced by ideas of infinity, cellular structures, memory, and the unseen systems that connect living things. Rather than illustrating these concepts directly, Jamie creates abstract works that invite viewers to slow down, discover their own patterns, and embrace ambiguity.
Alongside his visual art practice, Jamie has spent many years as a musician and creative, bringing the same sense of rhythm, improvisation, and exploration to painting. Each work becomes a record of time, movement, and attention—balancing intention with spontaneity to create images that feel both deeply personal and open to interpretation.
