This portrait is one of a series of charcoal drawings inspired by the spectacular staghorn ferns growing around Central Station on K'gari, (Fraser Island). I drew it without its host tree to better show its impressive form, in particular the luxuriant fronds cascading like baroque arabesques. In doing so, it has taken on an other-worldly appearance, hovering in space.
The strong, sculptural quality of the subject make it a striking work, that would enhance and complement both traditional and contemporary decor.
For added impact, 'Hover' may be exhibited alongside companion pieces 'Undaunted'and 'On the Shoulders of Giants'.
