Artwork Description

I'm always drawn to the shady nooks and gullies of the forest floor, where fungi sprout, leaves fall and every log and rock is cloaked in moss and ferns. Close looking reveals ever smaller layers of detail and wonder. One cool winter's day, delicate fronds growing on a mossy boulder by the side of the track inspired me to paint this watercolour, now reproduced as a limited edition, archival quality, digital print.
I hope it brings the peace, calm and joy to your home that I felt, spending time with this little fragment of the forest.

Artist Bio

Jan is a multidisciplinary, environmentally focussed Sydney artist, whose wide-ranging practice includes drawing, painting, print- and photomedia, and animation.

She exhibits with the eco-arts collective, the Tree Veneration Society, a group devoted to honouring, protecting and promoting trees and the natural environment. As a keen bushwalker, much of her current work involves detailed studies of Australian plants, especially those found in sheltered nooks and crannies of the forest. Close observation and careful drawing are central to her practice. This allows time to discover the beauty and complexity of the subject, and find wonder in both the natural world and the everyday.
