It was decluttering that had me ready to throw out some old wire coat hangers. I was captivated with their familiar shape that had held many an out fit. Simple, utilitarian, perhaps even boring but ever so much a part of our life. They have been used for many things apart from hanging clothes, but in this painting they carry the delicate fabrics of a little girl’s dress. The shadows cast giving a depth and life to the empty memories.
Underlying background colours of deep pink break through a rustic grey/olive which offsets the delicate colours of the shimmering dress.

Artwork Description
Artist Bio
Living in country Victoria, Jan draws inspiration from the world around her. Her love of animals is strongly represented in many of her artworks as well as the bold magpies that make fabulous statement pieces of art.
Jan’s style when painting animals is about using colour and composition to capture personality and quirky qualities that draw the viewer in. An innate understanding of the use of colours creates visual nuances to delight the viewer. With a strong following of dog lovers who enjoy Jan’s ability to capture the essence of our canine family members. As a piece of art in their own right or a beautiful way to honour our doggos, they are irresistible .
Jan also offers abstract landscapes that have a different feel to her animal/bird art. They are built up with many layers of colour and texture with her aim to make the viewer curious and engaged with the narrative of the land. The subtle components allow you to investigate and question what the artist is offering. A total flip from her animal paintings where you know exactly what you are looking at, Jan’s abstract landscapes give you the oppourtunity to observe and interpret from your own perspective.
With a desire to live to her mantra of “Leave the world a more beautiful place than you found it” along with consciously stretching her artistic boundaries, Jan’s art continues to develop.
With a rich, creative life prior to starting to paint, Jan’s artistic style is like a delicious slow cooked meal. Where the flavours and textures have developed with refined complex nuances and sometimes quirky delights.
Jan’s art is soul food. It will feed your soul and arouse your senses.
