From where did I learn to paint?
I learnt the basics of watercolor when I was at school in Sri Lanka. Afterwards I have taken classes / workshops with Joseph Zbukvic , Alvaro Castagnet , Julien Bruere, Herman Pekel and Mike Kowalski to advance my skills further.
What do I paint?
Every location that we visit provides us with a unique experience. My paintings are an attempt to communicate the atmosphere and experience of being there in the particular location at a given time.
I usually spend hours at a given location in order to soak in the atmosphere. This helps me to transform my experience to a work of Art. Therefore, all my paintings listed in Bluethumb are either painted on location or based on sketches done on location.
Why watercolors?
I paint predominantly in watercolor. I love the fluidity and the process of moving water on top of the surface of the paper. Watercolor helps me to transform what I see into a work of Art in a few clean strokes. After working with watercolors for nearly 20 years, it still doesnโt fail to surprise me and these surprises encourage me to explore the medium even more..
Quality of materials
I exclusively use archival 100% cotton watercolor paper and professional grade watercolors.
