Artwork Description

I was involved in an exhibition where I created a series of artworks based on Ningaloo Reef, WA, and its spectacular marine inhabitants. This sea turtle was one of them. I am particularly fascinated with these gorgeous, playful turtles and love to paint them in all different kinds of settings.

With this canvas I've used matte flow acrylics as my medium. I build up the background first, (often experimenting with different ways of applying paint, ie: string, sticks, toothbrushes, etc), then I paint the image on top of this more abstract background. I think the contrast between the ochres and bronze of the turtles contrasts well with the blue ocean background.

About Me

Artist + lover of brilliant colours & fluid forms. Passionate about my native Australia - its beauty reflected throughout its plants, its animals, its landscapes and its people.

I am Artworks by Louisa-Jane (Jane Louise) and I endeavour to showcase both exotic and distinctive Australian themes in my art. I work from both photographs and real-life - manipulating and expressing the essence of a particular scene, with some images more abstract than others.

I majored in drawing and sculptural ceramics at art college. I was previously an art teacher and educator and have recently returned to my first love of creating artworks. I paint with matte flow acrylics on canvas, building up layers as I go.

I often take my inspiration from the Australian bush and its spectacular inhabitants and scenery. I am always experimenting - trying out new mediums and methods of applying paint and colour. I delight in the incidental mishaps which I include throughout my work.

“The emotions are sometimes so strong that I work without knowing it… where the strokes come like speech”. Vincent van Gogh
