Artwork Description

Limited edition Giclée print on Ilford textured paper (cotton).
Edition 1 of 10, signed and numbered by the artist.
Size: 60 x 60cm.

Vibrant mixed-media artwork, combining original nature photography with digital painting.

The iconic Aussie Rainbow Lorikeet does a peculiar thing to stay cool in extremely hot weather: he sits very still in the shade with his beak wide open, and crazily vibrates his tongue up and down in his mouth. I captured this unusual behaviour in my backyard on a 45 degree summer's day, and decided to honour my lorikeet friend by transforming his heat-stress reflex into a unique work of art.

So, here he is: hot and bothered, but surviving. Inspirational, and just a little bit Cray-Cray!

Artist Bio

My primary body of work involves vibrant digital illustration and mixed-media composition, frequently evoking a whimsical Pop Art or Naïf aesthetic.

All my life I have been inspired by the colours, light, and patterns present in the everyday world. From the earliest age I was encouraged and influenced by my mother, grandmother, and sister - remarkable women and artists in their own right, who utilised such diverse mediums as patchwork, photography, and poetry.

From my particular vantage point in the Adelaide Hills, where I live with my family amidst a bountiful garden that overlooks the Sturt Gorge, I am endlessly awed by nature in its infinite beauty, complexity, diversity, and frailty. With the breathtaking Australian landscape literally on my doorstep, the natural world serves as a boundless source of inspiration, both creative and philosophical.

I approach art as a uniquely fulfilling pursuit into which I can channel both my creativity and my interests in politics, social justice, environmentalism, and conservation. I savour the opportunity to explore a wide range of mediums including pencil drawing, watercolour, acrylic paint on canvas, photography, and new and exciting digital art platforms - and my artwork frequently combines them all!
