Artwork Description

Linocut Print on paper

Signed and numbered on the front.

The inspiration for this artwork occurred on a 5 day kayaking trip along the remote North coast of Kangaroo Island. Magnificent, spectacular high cliffs and small rocky coves only accessible by boat. The endangered Australian Sea Lions are in one of their last strongholds along this coast. While paddling in one of these beautiful isolated coves a group of young Australian Sea Lions found us, this moment of surprise and wonder is the inspiration for this artwork.

The native leaves of the background in greens, ochre and gold provide a backdrop for a linoprint of a White Naped Honeyeater sitting almost furtively in the foreground. The Honeyeater has an eye ring of bright red bringing focus to the bird. The linoprint is a graphic graduated tonal representation of an Albatross soaring across the Southern Ocean.A contemporary background of layers of red and green acrylic leaf prints with a black linocut print of a Glossy Black Cockatoo in the foreground A black on white linocut print of a Boobook Owl sitting on a branch of a Gum tree with the Moon behind looking directly at the viewer. The Owl is slightly stylised and graphic. There are gum nuts and leaves in the background.
