My great grandfather was Danish and sailed all over the world working on steam ships. He also painted and growing up we grew to love the paintings he made of the ships on which he sailed. When I cam across the poem sailing by Danish poet Henrik Norbrandt I was inspired to paint this piece. The poem in part is “ two sailing ships that enjoy so intensely their own lines in the dank water they divide that their hills are almost splitting from sheer delight while racing, out in the blue undere sails which the night wind fills with flowerscenyed air and moonlight.
