I like to explore nostalgia and by using old photographs or family home movies as reference I can preserve moments that maybe seemed ordinary at the time but become precious fragments in our memories.
My work came from my own family home movies, at an event in the park opposite our house. I don't know exactly what the event was but it drew a large crowd of people from the small country town I grew up in. I was 5 years old.
In my painting, people of all ages sit together in the sunshine, sharing conversation and enjoying the event and the simple pleasure of being part of a community.
There is an ease and innocence to the scene, it's a moment when time seems to slow and every day life is shared collectively. The vintage setting evokes memories of a more simple era, where community gatherings brought people together and an ordinary sunny afternoon could become a cherished memory.
