Arkaroola Afternoon

I found inspiration for this abstract painting in the extraordinary landscape of the Flinders Ranges. This painting reflects my feelings on viewing across a valley in the afternoon as the sun lingered over the harsh dry landscape of the northern part of the Ranges. The vista was broken and fractured with skeletal plants clinging to the edges. The painting is in strong oil colours with touches of oil pastels.

Although I worked in science and government, I have always used every opportunity to engage in creative projects, including writing, painting and crafts. Now I finally have time to explore painting and to express the impact of my travels and experiences in paint. I am learning by engaging with other artists particularly around Victoria and studying in their studios.
I have exhibited at the Victorian Artists Society, Hobsons Bay Arts Society and at Port Fairy. My paintings are represented in private collections in Australia, the UK and France.
