Artwork Description

This artwork was for The Whitewall Art Project to celebrate Mental Health week. My artwork was selected as part of the 100 shortlisted and chosen from artists across Australia. Out of the 100 shortlisted only 60 were chosen to exhibit. So I congratulate the 60 that were chosen, well done!

INTO THE LIGHT
Abyss, black, fearing shadows in my head
Self-condemning sharp, piercing, dark shapes
Stab my soul, my heart, my mind.

Can I recover
Will life be better
Can my life live

Will light reach my soul, pierce my mind
Or is perpetual darkness my sentence
Light only a pinprick too far away

But, bright will be the escape
Kindly, gentle, softer the shapes of my mind

I’m worthy
And bright will be the escape

Janetha paints under the name of LYON.
I was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) in 1969. From an early age I had an interest in art, especially drawing figures and portraits.
After marrying the well-known South African artist, Marc Poisson ( www.marcpoisson.com ), over 20 years ago, over time I became adept at painting in oils.
My subjects included figurative works with strong narratives, then branching out to large flower studies, and capturing the beauty of our beautiful Australian birds in their natural habitat.
Currently I'm enjoying success exhibiting my work at Artist’s school exhibitions such as Portland near Lithgow NSW & Scarborough, as well as at art shows in Thirroul, Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama, Shoalhaven, Nowra, Bowral. I have also been invited to exhibit in the well known Gang Gang Gallery in Lithgow.
Also becoming well known on social media selling countrywide.
As a mainly self-taught artist, I paint subjects that touches the emotions of mostly women who enjoy the beauty of our surroundings, emphasising strong draughtsmanship in a fluid style with a warm, colourful palette also using thick textured oils with a painting knife.
My chosen subject matter evokes the charm, colour and excitement we find in nature and which brings the joy that enriches our lives, as I hope it does yours.
