Spanning over 5 decades, Janice Johnston’s artistic career has traversed a diverse range of mediums, styles, and techniques, embracing colour and beauty at every turn.
Mastering the techniques of pen and ink drawings, printmaking, collage, sculpture, illustration, ceramics, and a particular expertise over watercolour on paper, Johnston’s art evokes a whimsical joy and a sense of sublime wonder.
Having had her works exhibited both nationally and abroad, and represented in collections globally, Johnston's works bring to life both the gallery wall and the home interior. Viewers become transported into Johnston’s peaceful scenes, inspired by nature, childhood stories, and her sacred sites of contemplation found throughout her travels.
Honing her craft in America under the supervision of artistic mentors, Johnston found her success early by being selected as the winner of the Garden State Art Prize. With this achievement under her belt, Johnston moved back to Australia earning both her Bachelor’s in Visual Arts and Diploma of Education.
Alongside her art practice, Johnston also spends her time teaching and sharing her multidisciplinary knowledge. Johnston’s many years of teaching has seen her take on students across various Art Societies in both city and regional communities.
