Janice originally studied at Chisholm TAFE in the late ‘70s and has been a Graphic Designer/Artist for over thirty years. She originally trained as a fine artist and in 2009, returned to making that the main focus of her life and career.
In 2011, Janice completed a Diploma of Management to help her manage her developing art practice. She also completed a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, during which she wrote a 9-week Introduction to Drawing course specifically designed for small groups of beginners who want to cover the basics of drawing in a relaxed but informative atmosphere. Janice went on to complete a Diploma of Visual Art at Chisholm (2012-2013), an Advanced Diploma (2014) with High Distinctions, and a Bachelor of Fine Art and Visual Culture (2015-2016) with Distinctions and High Distinctions (a four-year course completed in two years).
Janice completed her Honours year in 2017. After her Honours year, which she successfully completed with Upper Second Class Honours, Janice completed two post-graduate courses in Arts Writing and Tertiary Teaching in 2018. Janice then completed her two master's courses in Creative Art and Communication between 2019 and 2021, both with Distinction. In 2022, Janice applied for and was accepted as a PhD candidate at the University of Southern Queensland and passed her candidature early in 2023. She is set to complete her PhD research in visual art at the end of 2024 or early 2025.
Whilst studying, Janice studied painting with internationally recognised fine artist David Chen and has attended workshops with him for over five years. She has volunteered and held art workshops at the McClelland Gallery for school groups and children’s holiday art workshops. Currently, she volunteers with the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery as an assistant for dementia patient visits and a gallery guide for major exhibitions. She holds a Working with Children Check and a Police Check certificate.
Janice has collectors in the UK, New Zealand and Australia, and her work is now in the permanent collection of Chisholm Victoria. Her studio and training/display room are situated at the top of the Mornington Peninsula on the family’s rural property. She is available for private drawing and painting lessons for children over the age of eight years and adults from beginners to more advanced skill levels.
Viewings of her work are by appointment.
