Artwork Description

The artwork is inspired by a recent trip to Germany during the springtime. While I was travelling I was facinated to see roses growing wild along paths and roadsides. These roses added a fairytale quality to the landscape and involked ideas of the wild feminine with these soft delicate flowers contrasted with vicious thorns.
This original artwork would lift a room with a romantic, feminine quality adding styling to a bedroom, sitting room, formal entrance or any small alcove that needs a touch of elgance.

Artist Bio

Janine Durston (AKA Jay Neeni) is a Melbourne based Visual Artist and Illustrator with over 20 years experience. A local artist for the City of Greater Dandenong, she takes great pride in her role as a local artist and the opportunity to share her work with the community.
Throughout her career Janine has won several awards and has exhibited her work both locally and internationally. She has had several successful solo shows and consistent commission work, creating predominantly from her studio in Melbourne’s South East.

Her work draws inspiration from the natural world and themes of the wild feminine. She enjoys contrasting clean sharp illustrations with organic fluid lines and abstracted backgrounds.
Colour plays an important role in the work, with previous experience and training in colour consultancy as well as colour mixing; colour being the foundation of every piece.
Through her work the artist hopes to take the viewer on a journey of exploration and discovery. She achieves this with layers of fine detail, a clear understanding of light and shade incorporated with serendipitous play. The willingness to work in mixed media adds further depth to her illustrative works.
Janine’s style is often fluid and organic with movement across the page or canvas reminiscent of Art nouveau and her subjects are chosen for their symbolism.
