“Mothering you” embraces the beginnings of new born life. It connects deeply with the notion of new parenthood and the baby being the centre of everything. Whether you breastfed or not, I wanted to express the engorgement and bodily changes mothers experience on their postpartum journey. I wanted my audience to decide on the feeling of the piece based on their own personal experience, which is why I left the face blank. I wanted this piece to be bold in shape but soft in feminine colour, much like the postpartum period.
