Jasmine Hearps-Rooney has always had an interest within the arts from a young age. It began with her love for Disney and perfecting colouring books. She always picked Visual Art as an elective subject through primary and secondary studies and began her journey within portraiture in final two years of HSC. She received a certificate of commendation for her first portrait drawing during this time, where she has continued to draw what inspires her life and world around her.
With her ongoing love and desire within portraiture and the naturalistic style of drawing, she continues her exploration within the interest to record memories through a concept of the language of drawing.
Her journey began through the world of pop culture, drawing celebrities and musicians that inspired her life in a subjective and objective scale. Her current series is based on latest readings and research into climate change and global warming issues. She has travelled to Tasmania Australia on the East Coast over the past 12 months, collecting resource material to build a body of work. Through her developed technical style of drawing, she records the beauty of the landscape to bring about awareness in what we need to protect.
She was born and grew up in Byron Bay on the Northern Rivers of NSW. Jasmine has a degree in Bachelor of Visual Arts and Diploma in Visual Merchandising. Within her four years of tertiary education she progressed within her practice through design, typography, painting and photography, and won the Kaske art prize for best performance in painting studio in 2014. She has exhibited her artworks within community and group exhibitions, local café’s and bars from QLD, NSW, and VIC. Her latest and solo exhibition ‘Homage to the fragile’ was in December at Waubs Bay Gallery 2016. She now has her artworks in Peppercorn Gallery Richmond and The Farm Shed in Bicheno Tasmania.
