Americain

This is a portrait of Americain, winner of the 2010 Melbourne Cup. He’s one of the most impressive horses I’ve ever seen, a French champion before he saw out his career in Australia. I’ve painted him a number of times, and this commanding profile is the first of a series of Melbourne Cup winners I’m painting.
