Jay Parappil paints with watercolours, acrylics and oils.
Jay started off as a watercolourist, painting landscapes and streetscapes, participating in art shows around Melbourne and winning a few prizes and commendations in the process. While largely preferring a representational, impressionistic approach to his subjects when working with watercolours and oils, Jay likes to liberate himself as an expressionist when painting with acrylics. This is, however, a generalisation - and more likely a description of a temporary, transient state in Jay's evolution as an artist - as it is central to his philosophy as a creator to stay free of rules and boundaries.
Irrespective of the genre or medium, and regardless of whether he paints a subject or an emotion, Jay strives to communicate in a visual language that is uniquely his.
