Artwork Description

Oil on canvas

Signed on the front.

“The fishermen know that the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore.” ― Vincent Van Gogh

Tend to agree with Vincent about the excitement that the inherent dangers of venturing offshore brings …. always the possibility of a disaster if you are not careful. I found this boat safely moored in the estuary at Airlie Beach in Queensland.

I painted it on location on the other side of the estuary en plein air, pretty well in one session – it just needed a few touch ups back at the campsite the next day. Very happy with it…..I think I managed to get the environment and the boat existing as one, rather than traditional ‘object and ground’, which is the first aspiration these days for this guy, using similar tones in the background to bring the colour notes together.

Please note that as I am travelling at the moment, that this painting is shipped as a piece of canvas, which will need to be put on a stretcher and framed, so please factor that cost into your considerations.
