Artwork Description

Cream Dancer is a beautiful shrub that I have in a large terracotta pot on my patio. (Xanthostemon chrysanthus) is a native of Nth Queensland rainforests, "Little Penda" is a dense growing shrub or small tree featuring creamy-yellow flower clusters. Loved by honeyeaters, lorikeets and the blue banded bees when in flower it buzzes with life. It has a lovely fragrance. The method of this painting was to use plastic wrap to give the background detail with the flowers and leaves spreading from the centre, as is in the actual shrub.

Artist Bio

I have been a practicing artist since my teenage years, from being privately tutored by a professional artist in oil painting where the beginnings were still life studies in montones before moving into using colour for portraits and landscapes. Along with these classes I studied commercial art part-time.
Later in my twenties with the emergence of porcelain art I attended classes and workshops for many years learning different composition styles and formats. Later on I opened my own retail shop and studio, where I taught many different porcelain techniques and sculpting in clay for reproduction.
Moving to rural Queensland with the various components needed for sculpting no longer easily accessible I made the decision to return to my first passion for which I attended various workshops and later the opportunity to study at the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba for abstract watercolour techniques. Since then I have added inks and ink block techniques to my watercolour palette, those which define the strong and vibrant colours of Australia. I love using the American Watercolour Fine Canvas as well as painting on quality watercolour paper.
I have exhibited and participated in various exhibitions and competitions over the years both in major cities as well as rural areas and within the region that I now live. I have been fortunate to have received Awards of High Extinction including 1st Place Awards.
2024 1ST Place Award "Shadows At Maheno", Seascape/Landscape Hervey Bay Regional Gallery Exhibition.
