Artwork Description

A time traveller at heart, lost in the index of space,
Mediums in hand, we dance on the canvas in a whirl of memories.
Just one last game as age does not weary them,
It was late 1999,
nan says “you have to collect something”,
Leech seed is planted, Solar beam is charging,
Hydro pump is what we need,
But a house of cards is built among a flamethrower.
If only we’d kept them, If only we could go back and save them. Left chasing the eternal chase card, holding on to cardboard, waiting for that last game with nan, like it’s still late 1999.

Artist Bio

Exploring time, engaging with space and watching paint dry
i'm a multidisciplinary painter, practicing in the studio and on the streets,
my passion for painting stems from graffiti.
i furthered my knowledge and love of the arts through study over the years.
obtaining my cert 3 - 4 in fine arts at west Wollongong tafe 2010,
and my bachelor of visual art from Wollongong University in 2016.
Being a finalist and exhibiting artworks, in prizes and group exhibitions in Sydney and Melbourne since 2017, has helped me want to curate my own groups exhibition’s m while helping emerging solo artistsin my local area, that may need a hand exhibiting .
I curate exhibitions at a collective gallery space, I help run/ own , located in Wollongong, called Wet Shoe Clubb.
In 2020 since the start of Covid 19 regulations in NSW, I’ve been working on a new series “ I paint what I drink “ ,taking a different direction with my work, while the world readjusts. I showed the majority of the 85 work series, as apart of my solo exhibition opening for the collective arts space, wet shoe clubb. I could be happier with the body of work produced. Keeping up momentum, this would not be only solo show for the year. The exhibition to follow, titled “ Wayward and the west “, will open December 11th 2020, at Wayward Brewery 1 Gehrig lane, Camperdown. This will be my final exhibition for the year and feature 40 new works. I look forward to 2021 Andrew ever evolving process of my work.

Abstract artwork statement :

My Artworks themselves, are depictions of themselves, exisiting as what they are.
Working in hyper abstraction, leaves my work with its own authenticity, my authenticity. I'm searching for the missed things in painting, the over looked, the forgotten. I don't believe everything has been done before, other wise society and artists would have all the answers. I get lost in my artworks sometimes, they can take hours upon weeks two complete, I primarily work in the exploitation of three dimensional space, I do this through exploiting paint for its strength depth, volume. While my more traditional two dimensional approach to painting, focuses on the exploitation of three dimensional space, through colour and light, creating illusion of depth on the two dimensional plain.
My work is forever evolving from the work I created before, constantly working with the manifestation of time and space, lost searching for where the wild paintings grow.

Beer can painting statement :

“ I Paint What I Drink”

From the first pour to the last sip , the result is the bottom of a tin. In the studio between works, sitting with a silver bullet.
Flying around bars and bottle shops left me, wanting to paint the iconic and independent, the dietary staples of many Australians, the glass sandwhich, or in this case, the tin canoe.
Keeping me a float, “I paint what I drink ” is a expressionistic series of works, I had been using to unwind between larger artworks. But then ryesolation set in, evolving the series, it has became a reflection of uncertain times.
These artworks have allowed me to evaluate and reflect on where I came from, what I’m doing and what may be next for my practice.
I guess this could be considered my beer period.
