Artwork Description

This elegant shell shows a beautiful spiralling form, with depths lit by light and shadow. A study of light and depth, with an interplay of soft watercolour transitions and strong markings.

Painted in 2026, this A3 artwork highlights the natural beauty of the shell form and interesting textures and colours as watercolour pigments mingle on the paper. Part of a series of Shell forms by the artist.

Artist Bio

Jemma creates elegant, light-filled watercolour paintings inspired by contemporary coastal scenes and botanicals. Often painting en plein air around Perth’s beaches, she captures the coast’s ocean movement and sunlit atmosphere.

Her work is distinguished by a focus on watercolour’s natural luminosity, thoughtful variation of edges to add interest and focus, and an aesthetic that balances accuracy with expression. This combination allows her to capture the coast in a way that feels both true-to-life and beautifully artistic.

Producing new work regularly and completing many commissioned pieces, Jemma is known for her refined, airy depictions of nature. She is a member of the Watercolour Society of Western Australia.
