My passion for all things arty began in childhood and progressed to include a love affair with sculpture, which began with stone carving. I loved the idea of combining the stone with other materials, like glass, wood and metal. As time went by I began experimenting with flowers and other botanicals, which led to an 18 year career in commercial large scale floral design, botanical sculpture and sharing the passion as a teacher in a specialist floristry college.
About a year ago, I began to suffer with arthritis in my hands and decided to try painting, as holding a brush was easier to manage. Much of my work so far has a distinctly botanical influence - no doubt due to so much exposure to this material. There is so much inspiration to be gained from the small details within leaves and flowers and I would like to explore this further with abstract expression.
