Artwork Description

Acrylic paint with drawing material and collage on quality cartridge paper. Finished with varnish for protection.

This painting is an abstracted landscape painting and is about a scene at a location known as the Picnic Grounds, at Arkaroola, a wildlife sanctuary in the north of the Flinders Ranges, South Australia. This is one of a series painted at Arkaroola at a week-long art workshop. This painting was started outside, with a grand view of rock faces in one direction, and a more quiet view of a hillside behind. This painting is of the hillside, which was topped with rocks, but also had plenty of interest with vegetation and nearby stones. . It was finished in the studio on site in Arkaroola. The painting has a lot of depth and interest.

The painting will look beautiful behind a matt border as shown in the in situ photos, although you could also explore other options with a framer if you prefer to frame it without glass protection. I have previously had a framer mount one of these paintings on paper on board and frame without glass. See for example "In the creek bed of Nooldoonooldoona". See also "In the shelter of the trees" for an option mounting the painting on canvas.

Artist Bio

I have been making art for a few years now, and I'm now doing it full-time. I'm loving the artist journey, and am proud to be high on the list of Bluethumb's rising stars. I have a large array of artwork available. I paint a lot, and enjoy exploring watercolour, oil and cold wax medium, acrylic paintings and mixed media as well as printmaking. Some of my work is on paper, others canvas or board. Perhaps you'd like to click on "follow" and hear about new work as it is listed.

I sold more than 100 paintings with Bluethumb in 2025 and was included in Bluethumb's 2024 "Top emerging women artists" curation and "Notable seascape artists of 2024" curation, as well as other curations in 2025 . I take inspiration from the coastal landscape around Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, as well as more diverse landscape from travels across Australia and beyond. I love to paint expressively and sometimes abstractly to capture the feeling, colour and detail of locations. I also delve into still life, abstract portraits, urban landscapes and florals.

I am constantly adding to my art education through many classes, online and in person, and through intensive art experiences , with guidance and mentoring from many fabulous artists.

In February 2025 I retired from a long professional career working in research in the area of family studies.
