Summer reds

The only kind of still life painting that I am drawn to is this kind, where perspective is set aside, and even the shapes and colours can be distorted from reality. This is one of a series of 4 paintings done in the same limited palette, using a lot of white, along with a lovely teal blue, paynes grey and both a bright red and a red oxide. They are painted onto 6mm board using acrylic paint and drawing materials, then varnished for protection.

The painting was an outcome of an online art workshop with Swedish artist John Button, with learnings adapted to my own style and interests.

The painting has been framed in a handmade wooden float frame, painted white. As the frame is handmade, the frames are not exactly the same size across all paintings in the series.

I have been making art for a few years now, and I'm now doing it full-time. I'm loving the artist journey, and am proud to be high on the list of Bluethumb's rising stars. I have a large array of artwork available. I paint a lot, and enjoy exploring watercolour, oil and cold wax medium, acrylic paintings and mixed media as well as printmaking. I sold more than 100 paintings with Bluethumb in 2025 and was included in Bluethumb's 2024 "Top emerging women artists" curation and "Notable seascape artists of 2024" curation, as well as other curations in 2025 . I take inspiration from the coastal landscape around Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, as well as more diverse landscape from travels across Australia and beyond. I love to paint expressively and sometimes abstractly to capture the feeling, colour and detail of locations. I also delve into still life, abstract portraits, urban landscapes and florals.

I am constantly adding to my art education through many classes, online and in person, and through intensive art experiences , with guidance and mentoring from many fabulous artists.

In February 2025 I retired from a long professional career working in research in the area of family studies.
