Artwork Description

This exciting painting is a very expressively painted scene drawing on a small waterhole - Stubbs waterhole - at Arkaroola. . Arkaroola is a wildlife sanctuary in the north of the Flinders Ranges, South Australia. This is one of a series painted there at a week-long art workshop. This painting was started in the studio on site in Arkaroola and finished at home.

The painting started on paper, which has been mounted onto a canvas, including wrapped the edges of the canvas so the painting continues around the side. Many more layers of paint were added after so it is quite textured. It has been finished with extra layers of medium and varnish for protection.

Artist Bio

I am an emerging artist, but proud to now be high on the list of Bluethumb's rising stars. Please enjoy browsing my large range of artworks - I have been exploring watercolour, oil and cold wax medium, acrylic paintings and mixed media as well as printmaking. Some of my work is on paper, others canvas or board. Perhaps you'd like to click on "follow" and hear about new work as it is listed.

I sold more than 100 paintings with Bluethumb in 2025 and was included in Bluethumb's 2024 "Top emerging women artists" curation and "Notable seascape artists of 2024" curation, as well as other curations in 2025 . I take inspiration from the coastal landscape around Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, as well as more diverse landscape from travels across Australia and beyond. I love to paint expressively and sometimes abstractly to capture the feeling, colour and detail of locations. I sometimes delve into still life, abstract portraits and florals.

While I have no formal art education , I have expanded my art education through many classes, online and in person, and through intensive art experiences , with guidance and mentoring from many fabulous artists.

In February 2025 I retired from a long professional career working in research in the area of family studies.
