Artwork Description

This vibrant tropical reef, as viewed through a classic ship's porthole, is a new take on a series of paintings I created in the 1990's. Crystal-clear turquoise waters reveal a colourful underwater world filled with tropical fish, coral gardens, and marine life, while a pristine white-sand beach stretches along the horizon above.

The realistic details and rich ocean colours create the illusion of looking through a ship's window into an underwater paradise. A striking Moorish Idol fish appears to swim beyond the porthole frame, adding depth and a touch of artistry that makes this piece truly captivating.

Artist Bio

I capture colourful moments from coastlines, landscapes, boats, and buildings — inspired by nature and everyday beauty. After five years of teaching painting through online art courses, I am now returning to my artistic roots, creating works of art for sale.

A lover of colour, the places I visit have always been my inspiration. When first exploring the world beyond my home state of Western Australia, I realised that every place has a unique beauty that I wanted to capture. I somehow knew that to bring those scenes to life, I needed to paint them.

So, in 1996, I enrolled in a painting course as a hobby. About a year later I began selling my work. Another year went by when I started to win a few art prizes. It was the year 2000 when I participated in my first gallery exhibition, along with four other artists, one of whom was my own art teacher.

Not being a competitive person, however, I soon decided art competitions and exhibitions were not for me.

Instead, I began to explore other art forms. Mosaics quickly began to dominate. My online store, where I sold coastal-themed house numbers and signs, proved very popular, ranking in the top 7% of Etsy stores worldwide at the time. This meant there was never any time for painting, which made me a little sad.

I was invited to teach an acrylic painting class, however, at Artable Studio on the Gold Coast. I found helping others to unleash their creativity to be very rewarding.

In 2019, it dawned on me that I could combine all my painting, teaching and computer skills to create online art courses. So, in March 2020, Blue Beach House Art School was born. Five years later, I offer six online painting courses, with a combined total of almost 10,000 enrolments.

One of the great things about having a career as an artist is that you can take your work with you wherever you go. As the wife of an airline pilot, that is something I have had to do several times. Since leaving Western Australia in 2002, there were moves to Queensland’s Gold Coast, Hawaii and Northern New South Wales. In 2023, we made a big move to Florida, in the USA, but this adventure was unexpectedly cut short.

Now, I am back in my favourite place in the world, Cabarita Beach, in my Blue Beach House, living a semi-retired life, painting only for the pleasure of it.

My new, relaxed lifestyle is why there are not a huge number of paintings here, but I can guarantee you that each one has been created with the joy that I would love to bring to your home.
