Yellow Garage

This original painting presents a charming and whimsical scene of a country garage and tree, with its rustic appeal, which is nestled upon an antique glass bowel. The use of watercolor pencils and gouache techniques adds depth and texture to the scene. The combination of these mediums gives the artwork a textured, almost dreamlike quality. Drawn on 200g hot-pressed paper, the smooth surface allows for intricate details, capturing the fine textures of the garage, tree, and bowl. It is currently unframed; however, I am happy to frame the artwork if requested.

Drawing has long been a way for me to observe, connect with, and interpret the world around me. While I initially explored landscapes, I soon found myself drawn to trees, their quiet strength, intricate forms, and remarkable sense of scale capturing my attention and imagination.

Growing up in the Snowy Mountains provided an endless source of inspiration. The natural beauty of the region, particularly the striking gum trees around Jindabyne, continues to influence my work. I find great joy in seeking out these forms in the landscape, each one offering the potential for a new and compelling drawing.

My practice also extends to the study of birds and still life subjects. These quieter works allow me to explore detail, texture, and composition in a more intimate way, balancing the grandeur of natural landscapes with moments of stillness and observation.
