I've been influenced by illustrators in past centuries. I love the muted colours, the detail, the mood. I wanted to evoke the feel of these through etching multiple plates and adding watercolour.

This is a variation in this small edition of 10. The edition is variable as colour has been varied. The plate is covered in hardground then drawn into. This is when the lines are etched. The next process involved etching the tones. A very important step in this particular work. I wanted the image to pop from the dark surroundings. The plate has been inked up in dark prussian blue and been handpulled on my press using Magnani 300gsm etching paper. Watercolour is added in many subtle layers to give a 'glazed' effect.
