Artwork Description

An ethereal scene portraying a dusk sky with a blend of soft pastel hues, the light softly diffuses through the clouds lending an almost mystical quality to the air. A single bird rendered as a dark silhouette against the delicate background, soars through the centre of the painting suggesting freedom, movement or perhaps escape. Subtle yet discernible tree branches stretch into the frame, their leaves and twigs gently touch the edges of the sky. A contemplative glimpse into a fleeting moment where nature and sky meet.

Artist Bio

Jen Prior is based at her garden studio at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges, in Melbourne’s outer east.
Mainly working with oils, but enjoys exploring the process with different mediums /techniques of watercolours, drawing and photography.

After exhibiting in group shows through regional Victoria and graduating Bachelor Fine Arts, 1998.

Creating became private and a therapeutic outlet. Jen had some further illustrative opportunities in the conservation field, she studied and worked in and also a couple of small public mural works. In 2018 she won 1st prize in Art 4 All, at Fairfield Primary School Art Fair, a Bluethumb Art Prize finalist in 2022 and has exhibited across Melbourne in group shows .

Jens expressive and atmospheric inspired landscapes and skies are created out of a sense of reverence, an emotive response to the natural world. It is more about the feeling of a place, enjoying the challenge of painting subdued light and subtle tones in the half light, creating soft transitions between forms, sometimes visible other times obscure.
