Artwork Description

Alfie Hits is an acrylic on paper painting that captures the intense energy of Cyclone Alfred's impact on the Gold Coast. The composition is dominated by deep blues and greens, reflecting the storm’s overwhelming power and the turbulent ocean. Through symbolic shapes and repeated patterns, the artwork evokes a sense of nature’s force and cyclical patterns. The swirls and sharp angles mirror the cyclone's chaotic path, while the repetition of certain forms suggests the inescapable nature of such storms. The painting not only documents the event but also conveys the emotional weight of nature's unpredictable

Artist Bio

Having lived on the Gold Coast, Australia for most of my life, my love for art started at a very young age. Having been a Primary School teacher for 28 years, I became a Primary Art Teacher in July 2019 where I have been able to share my love and knowledge of art with my students.
My art depicts my love of organic shapes and repetition of pattern and colour. I have influences of flora and fauna that surrounds me as well as the symbols that have personal meaning. I like to experiment with acrylics, mixed media, pen, watercolours and printmaking.
As an intuitive artist, my art rarely starts with a clear idea of what I will create, rather I begin with a medium and colour scheme and let my creative juices lead me down the imaginative garden path.
I like to layer my work to create texture and spark conversation. I believe in letting go when creating my art, allowing freedom to come into play through my works.
