I like to think of the Orca as the Queen of the oceans. Orca’s are intelligent and social beings, living together in their family pod in a complex society where the females are the top of their hierarchy. Because they hunt in packs they have been deemed killers, which unfortunately doesn’t celebrate their social and loyal behaviours.
Their striking colour makes them ideal for a monochrome painting like this and I have added the sunlight reflections of the waters ripples in part to help show the smoothness of the surface. My favourite ocean predator also happens to be an apex predator but really it is their intelligence and social loyalty that draws me to them.
This piece is a striking artwork that draws you to it on the wall. It is simple with a fine complexity much like the Orca itself.
