Storm Break

This abstract expressionistic seascape captures the ever-changing mood of the coastline just before a storm breaks. Layers of soft blues, greys and sandy ochres blend with richly textured brushwork to evoke the movement of wind, waves and shifting light, while hints of coastal flora and scattered shells anchor the scene to the shoreline.

Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting invites the viewer to pause and recall their own memories of standing by the ocean, feeling the salt air and watching dark clouds gather on the horizon. It is a celebration of nature’s raw beauty, where calm and turbulence exist together in a landscape that is both familiar and deeply atmospheric.

Jen works quickly and with great intensity, preferring the combination of acrylics, enamels, hand made papers, recycled materials and high relief to create the layers and texture her concepts demand. Her confident use of colour gives her work a sense of freedom and celebration. Her distinctive contemporary style is constantly evolving in subject matter and use of materials.
