Artwork Description

All my life I’ve tried to go with the flow, but now, in my late 50’s, I finally have the courage to go my own way. This has never been more applicable than in my creative life. As an overly sensitive teen I was told by a well-meaning adult that I should stop painting ‘weird’ things and paint something ‘normal’. I took this to heart and spent several years trying to paint ‘normally’, which led to me pretty much giving up art in my late 20s.

So, here’s me, a somewhat weird fish swimming against the flow. As for the weird canvas and frame, that’s my fabulous hubby, Russ’s fault.. 😁

Note: measurements listed below are taken at the widest width and height of the floating frame.

Artist Bio

I’ve painted since I was old enough to hold a brush.. Born with a significant visual impairment, I was encouraged to draw and paint in the hope it would aid visual development. I’m not sure it did much for my eyesight, but it certainly did plenty for my spirit

Art, for me, is all about communication. Everything I paint is communicating something , whether it be a simple emotion, or a more complex thought. My artistic style encompasses: abstract, expressionism, Impressionism and surrealism. If I were to categorise myself, I would say I’m an Outsider artist. Outsider art has been described as ‘any work of art produced by an untrained idiosyncratic artist who is typically unconnected to the conventional art world.’

In addition to painting I have a number of other creative outlets. I’m a trained florist and published children’s author. I crochet and design clothing, work with clay and make jewellery.
