Artwork Description

The Japanese practise of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is given new life with lacquer sprinkled with gold dust has fascinated me for years. The Japanese see breakage and repair as part of an object’s history. Like broken pottery we humans also carry scars . We can choose to hide them or fill them with gold.

Painting is on cradled wood meaning there is a supporting frame on the back. It is wired ready to hang.

Artist Bio

I’ve painted since I was old enough to hold a brush.. Born with a significant visual impairment, I was encouraged to draw and paint in the hope it would aid visual development. I’m not sure it did much for my eyesight, but it certainly did plenty for my spirit

Art, for me, is all about communication. Everything I paint is communicating something , whether it be a simple emotion, or a more complex thought. My artistic style encompasses: abstract, expressionism, Impressionism and surrealism. If I were to categorise myself, I would say I’m an Outsider artist. Outsider art has been described as ‘any work of art produced by an untrained idiosyncratic artist who is typically unconnected to the conventional art world.’

In addition to painting I have a number of other creative outlets. I’m a trained florist and published children’s author. I crochet and design clothing, work with clay and make jewellery.
