About
In creating this piece, raw emotion, interplays with acrylics, shellac and ink. My use of oil pastel further injects vibrancy, each stroke intentional, yet free. This artwork embodies both the chaos and tranquility of the human spirit – a dance of color and texture.

Subject
Connections and contrasts of imperfections, found in the urban environment, highlighting, insignificant marks, weathered surfaces and cast - offs. I am influenced by abandoned and derelict spaces, vacant industrial sites, structures, old walls & graffiti.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Jenny Davis is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia. Her practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video, textile and fibre work, collage, and installation. Working across both traditional and experimental media—including abstract oil and acrylic painting, textile assemblage, found object sculpture, handmade artist books, and photography, digital and analogue processes—Davis is best known for an abstract practice that evolves through layering, material sensitivity, and the convergence of surface, gesture, and time.

Davis’ work explores the layered relationship between memory, decay, renewal, and identity. Through the use of paint, antique and vintage textiles, found objects, and weathered materials, she gives form to histories that are both personal and collective. Her process is guided by repetition and return: surfaces are built up, worn back, and reworked, allowing intuition and material response to shape the final form. Painting and textile practices intersect through a shared attention to rusting, stain, texture, and edges. A significant development in her practice emerged with the Wallmatter and Rustmatter series (2016), which combined textiles, concrete, and paint and marked a breakthrough in technical exploration. Another formative moment occurred during an artist residency at Can Serrat International Arts Centre in Barcelona, Spain, where Davis collaborated with and was mentored by a master artist whose approach expanded her understanding of art beyond the physical object—encouraging a practice in which any action, material, or idea present in the moment could become part of the work.

Jenny Davis has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne, Australia), Switchback Gallery at Monash University Gippsland (Victoria, Australia), Carteret Contemporary Gallery (North Carolina, USA), Can Serrat International Arts Centre (El Bruc, Barcelona, Spain), and TPTP Space (Montmartre, Paris, France) Berlin. Germany and New York, USA. Her work is held in collections including Can Serrat International Arts Centre (Barcelona, Spain), Rydges Hotel Group (Australia), the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley and the California Center for the Arts, Escondido (USA), as well as private collections across Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Europe. Davis has participated in projects and exhibitions including the Landfill Art Project (USA), the John Leslie Art Prize at Sale Regional Art Gallery (Victoria, Australia), John Baldessari: Name in Lights at Monnaie de Paris (Paris, France), and the 57th Venice Biennale through The Biennale Project (Venice, Italy).
