My Perth studio/gallery (Peach Tree Gallery) is situated in the lovely eastern hills of Perth, Western Australia where I teach art, paint and display my works
I also have an arts guesthouse on the banks of the Mekong River in NE Thailand where I teach painting and together with my wife we introduce our international guests to the magic of NE Thailand https://www.thailand-painting-holidays.com/
I have exhibited in countless solo and group exhibitions, my works have been in several publications. I can't list them all here but you can easily search for me.
Born in England, and graduating from the University of London, I have a diverse career, including working as a Town Planner, a Geologist in East Africa and Australia, a senior manager in IT for BHP and Woodside in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth and subsequently Director of IT Consulting with Ernst and Young.
After studying for a Diploma of Art at the prestigious Claremont School of Art, Perth, I established my career as a professional artist in 1994 with my first solo exhibition of Pilbara landscapes at Woodside Petroleum in Perth and Karratha, Western Australia.
My work is very diverse as I am continually experimenting. Some of my work includes landscapes with whimsical, dreamlike Chagall figures, others range from impressionistic through to abstract paintings. Characteristically these works communicate to people in different ways as they interpret them from the source of their own experience and emotions. Collectors say the paintings make them feel happy perhaps due to the joyful colours and because they are painted with love.
My work is imbued with enthusiasm and passion for art, as I concurrently develop several themes both painterly and conceptual, with characteristic movement, colour and wit. My paintings are in acrylic and oil on canvas or oil pastel and inks on cotton rag paper, incorporating a wide range of techniques from rough brushing, in which I drag paint across the canvas using colour shapers and finish with the deep glow of multiple translucent glazes.
My influences include Lloyd Rees, Van Gogh, Bonnard, Klimt, the Fauves, Lucian Freud, Arthur Boyd, John Perceval, Brett Whitely, Marc Chagall, Garry Shead, Fred Williams, Stanley Spencer and Paula Rego.
My artwork is represented in many private and public collections throughout Australia and internationally. I have had many successful annual exhibitions at galleries in Perth, Broome, Yallingup, Mandurah, Adelaide, Melbourne, Cairns, UK and the USA. My paintings have been used in several books, CDs and magazines for publishers including the Australian Broadcasting Commission, Michigan University Press, the New York Art Guide and Palette Magazine.
In March 1995 I established the first Internet art gallery in Australia Peach Tree Gallery.
