Artwork Description

I received the inspiration for this painting whilst working on a hot summer’s day in Bathurst, NSW. I was intrigued how even the approach of a very hot day could affect the distant colours and cause the effect of a very bright glare on the dead grass in the foreground.

The two magpies add the touch of life to the Australian bush. Truly the hot and dry Australian summers have a unique and rugged beauty all of their own.

Artist Bio

I have been an enthusiastic painter since the age of 11. Most of my childhood was spent in a rural setting, where my love for the Australian landscape developed. I am passionate about producing paintings that possess light, atmosphere, and depth. My love for beauty in landscape is directly connected to my love for God.

Though primarily self taught, I have had the privilege of being in contact with a number of prominent Australian landscape painters. It’s so important in your painting journey to be able to have professional advice and to draw from the skills that others have acquired over a lifetime.

My goal is to be ever pushing forward and gaining a deeper understanding of the physics behind good paintings. When an artist has truly mastered the technical skills, paintings that possess seemingly effortless beauty and spontaneity can be produced.

Each of my artworks has a story all of its own. When you paint, it’s as though your mind searches through a whole memory bank of beautiful scenes past experienced. It could be the way you remembered light filtering through foliage, or the modulation of colour into the distance.

My prayer is that my paintings will convey the kind of beauty that will bring rest to the mind, and transport the viewer to a less frenetic world where there is time to reflect and look up.
