Artwork Description

Acrylic on wood, ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

The work is influenced by Ivan Pavlov's experiments in classical conditioning which dissect impulses and the way they can be influenced through association. Pavlov is most renowned for his experiments with his dog. Initially he would ring a bell when feeding the dog, which caused the dog to associate the sound of the bell with food. Eventually, the dog would salivate from hearing the bell alone. There are many similarities with this type of conditioning in human behaviour, which have become especially apparent in 2020. This work references reflexes, domesticity, repetition, compulsive behaviour and mundanity.
