Artwork Description

When I first moved to Australia, the vibrant and varied birdlife found so readily in our back gardens and local parks was one of the first things I noticed. I am so lucky to live in a country that provides such constant inspiration in nature.

This little honeyeater is one of many who frequents our back garden - they are nervous creatures but left in peace they happily enjoy the flowers in our garden, of which the agapanthus are a particular favourite.

Artist Bio

I grew up on the beautiful south coast of England, and moved to Australia in my twenties where I'm now settled in Perth raising my family and pursuing my dream career as a professional artist.

My love of art started when I was very young, and many of my fondest memories involve drawing, experimenting with new art mediums and being taken on trips to the local art shop. I was encouraged in my artistic pursuits from a young age, and although primarily self taught, also studied art at GSCE level in the UK and undertook life drawing classes at the National Art School in Sydney when I first moved to Australia.

Although I love working in all art mediums, I tried acrylics in high school and it’s been a match made in heaven ever since! I love the speed at which acrylic paints dry, allowing me to quickly build up layer after layer, creating beautiful depth and detail in my paintings. I work primarily in realism with a focus on portraiture, using a painterly style to capture the emotion and personality of my subject and the relationship between subject(s) and viewer.

Created from my home studio - where I'm often accompanied by the family pets, two Burmese cats and a Sheltie puppy - my art reflects my love of animals and nature. I take great joy in capturing the likeness in pet portraits, whilst my wildlife art is heavily influenced by both the British wildlife I grew up with, and the Australian wildlife that surrounds me now.
