Bloom Beyond the Vase is part of my Floral Exploration Series (2026), where I reimagine the familiar idea of flowers in a vase through bold colour, simplified forms, and expressive movement. Rather than depicting a specific botanical species, this painting explores the feeling of flowers—their energy, joy, and ability to transform a space.
Painted in warm terracotta brown, blush pink, and vibrant magenta, the composition celebrates playfulness and optimism. The flowing leaves and abstract blooms stretch beyond the boundaries of realism, inviting viewers to connect with the work through imagination rather than recognition. The striped vase anchors the composition while the surrounding forms create a sense of rhythm and growth, suggesting that beauty is something that expands beyond its container.
This work is influenced by the bold simplicity of mid-century design, the decorative language of folk art, and contemporary abstract florals. My practice draws inspiration from the emotional power of colour, everyday moments of joy, and the freedom to reinterpret familiar subjects in unexpected ways. Rather than painting flowers as they exist in nature, I paint them as they exist in memory and imagination—expressive, imperfect, and full of personality. As with the rest of my Floral Exploration Series, this piece reflects my ongoing interest in creating uplifting works that celebrate colour, movement, and the quiet optimism found in ordinary objects.
This artwork is completed on a reclaimed canvas with backing board and faux wood frame as part of my commitment to reduce waste produced in the art world.
