When I'm not painting, I work as a Horticultural Therapist. I help people create wildflower meadows as therapy.
Over the summer I transformed my own bare earth front yard into a wildflower meadow. The triumphant blooms continue to surprise, delight and uplift us. It is pure therapy every time we look out the window in the morning or return home in the evening.
I created photographic portraits of my favourites to paint later. This painting is the second one I have completed in the series.
I am also currently completing a needlepoint design by Kaffe Fassett. It's a single scarlet rose against a turquoise background. The simple format of this needlepoint has inspired the compositions of my flower series.
I love the idea of singling out an individual flower and really diving into the form of the petals and the glow of the colour. It feels so reverent in the context of an entire meadow of flowers.
These single-flower paintings I am working on are both bold and delicate. Like a flower, they are small in size, inviting you to come closer, and they glow with warmth and sunshine. They will add a little splash of joy to any room. I hope this painting will fill you with peace and help you connect to the natural world outside your door.
