Auburn
“Redheads might always be considered beautiful or barbaric, saintly or sinister. From Queen Elizabeth I to Sansa Stark, the history of red hair in visual culture carries with it tales of prejudice and desire.”
Symbolism of redheads by Sarah Dotson.
Painted from life, Madeleine’s incredible ankle length auburn red hair contrasts beautifully against her pale luminescent skin. Looking back through the history of painting, the redhaired beauty of the female nude has always been a constant muse. I have aimed to capture the essence of Madeleine as a contemporary muse, confident and alluring.
